Shiny Halo Street

31 January 2012

On Tuesday 31 January 2012 the Millthorpe Business Committee and Centroc launched the final phase of the Shiny Halo Street Business Sustainability program. Shiny Halo Street has been designed to help Millthorpe businesses become more sustainable. So far Shiny Halo Street has worked on energy efficiency and now is implementing worm farms to reduce food waste to landfill from local businesses. The program will use worm farms that have been built in 240L or 140L wheelie bins as they can take a lot more food waste than an ordinary worm farm. Today saw the installation of the worm farms and training of businesses in the most efficient operation of their worm farms.

The first part of the program is complete. Millthorpe used a State Government Program called ‘Energy Efficiency for Small Business’ to audit the energy usage of businesses around town. The program comes with a great rebate and was also flexible enough to include home businesses here in Millthorpe.

Centroc’s Shiny Halo is all about encouraging sustainable behaviours and ensuring that the region is in the best possible shape to move into a changing future. Centroc’s Shiny Halo program is supported by the NSW Environmental Trust.
